European education and training systems for Maintenance workers are not aligned and do not adequately describe skills, making it difficult for employers to assess the value of foreign or even domestic diplomas. The EU promotes the development of an Education Qualification Framework, which describes learning outcomes, and makes them comparable.
A European Qualification meta-Framework (EQF) for Maintenance learning outcomes will be developed (preliminarily called a ‘Maintenance Passport’) and linked to individual sector-specific ECVETs (European Credit system for Vocational Education & Training). The framework will be piloted for shut down engineers in the Chemical industry.
A priority listing for development of further ECVETs will be made.
